Beschreibung

Die neunzehn Briefe ist seine kurze, aber geradezu geniale Einführung in die Gedankenwelt von Rabbiner Hirsch. Eine Einführung in das philosophische Denken des grossen Lehrers. Samson Raphael Hirsch (1808-1888) war ein deutscher Rabbiner. Dazu gilt er als führender Vertreter des orthodoxen Judentums im Deutschland des 19. Jahrhunderts. Rabbiner S.R. Hirsch ist der Begründer der Neo-Orthodoxie, einer Denkrichtung, die auch zur Gründung unabhängiger „Austrittsgemeinden“ führte. Sein erzieherisches Ideal bezog Hirsch aus den Pirke Awot, Sprüche der Väter (Ethikwerk) mit dem Zitat von Rabbi Gamliel: „Schön ist das Studium der Tora zusammen mit ‚Derech Erez‘“, mit weltlicher Beschäftigung bzw. weltlichen Studien. Der ideale Jude, der „Jisroel-Mensch“, ein von ihm geprägter Begriff, ist nach seiner Meinung „ein aufgeklärter Jude, der die Gebote/Mizwot beachtet“.

Rabbiner Samson Raphael Hirsch (1808 – 1888), der in Deutschland lebte und wirkte, war einer der bedeutendsten jüdischen Persönlichkeiten seiner Zeit. Seine spezielle jüdische Weltanschauung wird auch heute auf der ganzen Welt gelehrt und gelebt. Er war ein Erneuerer, sah aber trotzdem die Autorität der Halacha als absolut an. Sein erzieherisches Ideal war “Tora im Derech Erez‘“. Danach war der ideale Jude, seiner Meinung nach ein aufgeklärter Jude, der die Gebote hält.
