Die Mizwot – die Gebote der Tora, eine systematische Auflistung der Mizwot (Gebote) nach Wochenabschnitten geordnet. Mit allen Bibel Zitaten und den klassischen Kommentaren des Mittelalters. Was ist eine Mizwa und was soll durch ihre Erfüllung erzielt werden? Es wäre einfach und unkompliziert, die Mizwot nur als Gebote zu definieren. Wir könnten einen Schritt weitergehen und das Wort Gott hinzufügen, also die Gebote Gottes. Diese überaus vereinfachte Definition ist aber unzureichend, da viel mehr im Begriff „Mizwa“ enthalten ist. Jehuda Halevi behauptet, dass die Mizwot einen Menschen bis auf den höheren Gipfel der Prophetie emporheben.
Juden haben 613 Lebensregeln. Sie heißen Mizwot und sagen, wie die Menschen mit Gott und miteinander umgehen sollen. Die Mizwot stehen in der hebräischen Bibel. Laut Überlieferung übergab Gott sie Mose auf dem Berg Sinai. Die Einzahl heißt Mizwa.
Die Mizwot umfassen genau 248 Gebote und 365 Verbote für alle Bereiche des Lebens. Nach ihnen sollen Juden ihr Leben gestalten. Zum Beispiel gibt es Verhaltensregeln für den Schabbat und alle anderen jüdischen Feste, für das Essen, für die Kleidung, für Gebete, Hochzeiten, Beschneidungen, Beerdigungen und viele andere praktische Dinge und Ereignisse im Alltag und im Leben der Menschen
Abraham Chill lebte von 1912- 2004. Er war der erste amerikanische Militär Rabbiner in den USA. Rabbiner Abraham Chill legt in seinem Buch dar, wie wichtig es ist, neben der praktischen Ausführung der Gebote, die tiefen Schichten unterschiedlicher Begründungen der Mizwot zu erforschen, weil diese den Geist des denkenden Menschen anregen und seine Aufmerksamkeit in Anspruch nehmen.
